"think of an acorn. it contains the codes and blueprints for the oak tree. in the same way, we have always held the secrets to our own self-realization, but have not fully grown into the true self. the casual body holds these seeds, including karmic issues-those we need to work through to grow and change."
Please Help Me Realize My Dream To Undertake My Yoga Teacher Training Off the Mat and Into the World As a Therapist for Children & Women
Thank you for your love and generous support!
Hi, my name is Minna and I’m heading to Bali, the beautiful and spirited island of Indonesia, in February for a 500 hour yoga training through a program called Shakti Initiation.
Oh…? Ya don’t say…
Shakti Initiation is a unique all women’s yoga leadership program. I’ll be with a community of about 23 other women led by two amazing and beautifully spirited women Jovinna Chan and Grace Jull, both of whom I’ve had the privilege of training with in my 200 hr program. We’ll spend 25 days exploring and deepening our knowledge of and connection with yogic philosophies, ancient insights from spiritual communities around the world, and universal energies while nourishing ourselves with daily yoga practices. And what really drew me to this advanced (and intense!!) program is the emphasis on our inner transformation as women and leaders.
So, how will this training be applied?
Right now I’m in the process of a career change into clinical social work to provide counseling and therapy for our youth and families through holistic and mindfulness strategies and lifestyle choices. With my experience as a public elementary school teacher in NYC the last 6 years coupled with this yoga training (health coach certification and pending children’s yoga teacher certification), I hope to be able to serve with clearer intentions rooted in the wisdom I’ve gained from connecting with myself as a woman and a leader while remaining grounded through my yoga and mindfulness practices. All this training is so that I can serve with greater honesty, authenticity, integrity, and with love. Someone once told me, a farmer can’t feed others if she doesn’t feed herself…
So, I’m gonna gorge myself on lots of yogic wisdom!! And when I get back from Bali, I’ll be volunteering my time with the Holistic Life Foundation in inner city Balitmore. I’m currently volunteering at their afterschool program serving children from Pre-K to 5th grade. Atman, Ali, and Andy are good guys who do good work…they bring yoga and mindfulness to inner city youth.
How will your experience help the community you wish to serve?
I know from my personal experience that yoga literally saves my life, rejuvenates my whole being every time I step onto the mat or choose to pause and breath…or any of the number of other mindful strategies I use that I’ve learned about throughout the last decade or so. Yoga and mindfulness along with two compassionate and wise counselors have guided me closer to becoming the person I wish to become, to feel whole and connected…I wish that for everyone. And it would be a privilege to be able to work with our youth – to support them in realizing their full potential at a younger age. Pretty cool…
That IS cool! Powerful…
Here’s the thing…it takes a village. I’m a strong believer in collective effort, strength in numbers, and making meaningful investments for our future. If you believe in the work that I’m embarking on, please help me to get to Bali. I am grateful for your contribution in any amount, your support in words/hugs/positive vibes...
With love and gratitude...Minna
