I'm walking the yorkshire three peaks in a day to raise money for a hospital in South India!
In the mountains of Tamil nadu state is a very special hospital; Ashwini.
Ashwini provides healthcare for one of the poorest and most neglected sections of Indian society: the indigenous tribals or "Adivasis". I'm going to spend four weeks working there this summer as part of my elective.
Ashwini started as a small community health programme and grew into a health service serving more than 20,000 people, with a 20 bedded hospital and 8 smaller centres owned and managed by the tribal people themselves. Healthcare is free at the point of access.
I think that ASHWINI is really amazing example of sustainable and positive development. You can read more about ASHWINI here: http://www.ashwini.org/ or watch the video above!
I've booked my flights to India for this summer and will pay for my own accomodation.
However, the hospital requires me to raise 600 pounds as a donation in order to go.
So I am planning to walk the yorkshire peaks in one day at easter and i'm asking for your donations!
The route itself is around 24 miles and pretty darn hilly but In order to increase its difficulty...:
-I will complete the route in indian dress (see photo)
-If you donate £15 pounds or more you can nominate one item (weighing 500g or less) for me to carry/ wear.. this can be anything you like.
-If I reach my £600 pound target I will also cycle from leeds (70 miles with a tent and all my stuff)
I would really really appreciate any donation, big or small!
Thank you! Namsate!
